NOTES ON THE 1789 & 1892 LECTIONARY AND PSALTER

Rather than give the entire lectionary and Psalter from the 1789 and 1892 Prayer Books, I have only noted the few differences between them and those in the 1928 Book of Common Prayer.  Most of the changes were made in 1928; therefore, unless noted otherwise, the differences noted below apply to both the 1789 and 1892 Books.

There are additionally some differences in capitalization, punctuation, etc.

Collect for St. Luke

ALMIGHTY God, who calledst Luke the Physician, whose praise is in the Gospel, to be an Evangelist and Physician of the soul; May it please thee that, by the wholesome medicines of the doctrine delivered by him, all the diseases of our souls may be healed; through the merits of thy Son Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

PSALTER DIFFERENCES

The Psalters of the 1789, 1892, and 1928 BCP's appear to be completely identical, with the exception that pauses between lines (as noted by asterisks in the 1928 and colons in the 1892 Books) are missing in the 1789 BCP. Also, the verse numbering is very occasionally different. Psalms in the 1789 Book are identified by lower case Roman numerals.
